Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults is a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by persistent symptoms, including inattention, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and restlessness. In adults, ADHD can result in unstable interpersonal relationships, impaired academic or occupational performance, and diminished self-esteem, thereby adversely affecting quality of life. This paper provides an overview of the literature on the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of adult ADHD. Diagnosis is frequently delayed until adulthood or misunderstood. Assessment challenges include subtler symptom presentation compared to children and diagnostic overshadowing by medical and psychiatric comorbidities. Pharmacotherapy is the first-line treatment for adults with ADHD. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most widely used psychological intervention.
